Fossils in Antarctica....sounds highly unlikely. But it's true: fossils have been found in Antarctica, and not just any fossils but temperate fossils. But how could fossils of creatures that could have only existed in climates of the equator end up in Antarctica?
That's because of plate tectonics. According to scientists, Antarctica used to be were Brazil is now millions of years before, when dinosaurs walked the land. That could explain the mystery of the fossils and why fossils of other land dinosaurs have been found on different continents across the ocean. You couldn't expect a land animal to suddenly become a swimming superstar but you could expect the continents to move over millions of years.

In science at the start of a new unit, we make flashcards for the science vocabulary. The only thing is that it is online. We use this website called Quizlet and make our flashcards online. Mrs.Poole puts the vocabulary words on the test, and we have to memorize them. I always get those questions right because Quizlet helps me remember them.

I think Quizlet is really effective because it helps you learn the vocabulary words. I don't think there is anything better than Quizlet. If you try to memorize the words without Quizlet, it would be pretty difficult. If you tried Quizlet to memorize words for a test, then you will pass that test. I recommend Quizlet for preparing for tests because it could help you remember really important things like the definition of words and other things.

In science, we learned that Charles Darwin made the theory of natural selection. He made this theory when he went to the Galapagos Islands. He notice that a bird called the Finch was different than the ones he saw. He noticed that the Finches had different beaks than others. Charles Darwin set out to find out why this happened. In the desert, he noticed that Finches there had a different beak to peck at cactus. He noticed how hot it was and thought that the Finch had adapted to the environment.

Then he met a person named Lyell. Lyell said that the Earth is older than they originally thought. He said that living things probably changed over time. This made Charles Darwin think that the animals had evolved over time. Since the Earth was older, the animals must have evolved. This help Charles Darwin formulate a theory of natural selection.

The Grand Canyon is a magnificent place to go. The Grand Canyon was formed many years ago. The question is how does the Grand Canyon demonstrate superposition and cross-cutting. The Grand Canyon demonstrates superposition because it was formed with many layers of rock. There are many layers of rock in the Grand Canyon that makes it demonstrate superposition.

Another question is how does the Grand Canyon demonstrate cross-cutting. Cross-cutting is where you cross and other thing. In the Grand Canyon, cross-cutting is shown by a layer of rock cutting another layer of rock. This is shown by a color of a rock cutting another color of rock.

In science, we learned that the peppered moth population was changing color. Instead of being white, they were turning black all of a sudden. A scientist named Dr. Kettlewell was trying to find out why peppered moths were changing color. He suspected that pollution was causing all of this. Then he found out that it was the DNA of the moths that made the turn black. Since the forests were polluted, the moths used natural selection and changed their color from white to black.

What I learned was how the population of peppered moths was changing and what made it change. Now there are many factories using less pollution to help the peppered moth population. I predict in the future that the peppered moth population will change color and become white again because since so many companies are using less pollution, then that means that the color of the peppered moth will be white again.

Evolution is when and organism changes over time. When that happens, other organisms follow and change. Overpopulation is when there are too many organisms living in one place. When that happens, we start too use a lot of resources and consume them. When that happens, competition takes place.

Competition is where you start to fight over resources like food or shelter. It can cause havoc all around. When this happens evolution takes place. Evolution happens because when resources are being consumed, then people start to adapt to the losing resources and evolutionize. Then people start to evolve and become into new organisms. After that happened, you have a whole new breed of organisms.

In science, we were learning about genetics. We did this thing called the paper pet family project to learn how genes are inherited from you parents. I learned how genes are inherited from parent to offspring. To inherit you looks, you have this things called genotypes. Genotypes are used to determine your phenotype. Genotypes look like this, Bb. We also use punnet squares to keep track of genotypes.

This project relates to my family because I inherit my looks from my parents. In my family, brown hair is the dominant trait and black hair is the recessive. So the genotype would look like this, BB, Bb, bb. The big b is the dominant trait which is brown hair and the little b is recessive trait for black hair. My family also has brown eyes which is dominant and black eyes which is recessive.

Punnet squares are used in genetics. They are used to keep track of genotypes like Bb. I made a punnet square myself. It was about having a normal chin, which was dominant, and having a cleft chin. The genotype was CC,Cc, or cc. My results were that if I were to have children, that 75% of the children would have a normal chin. The genotype was Cc and Cc.

What I learned was how to use a punnet square and learning about genotypes and phenotypes. A genotype is a person's physical make up and a phenotype is their appearence. All people get their genotype from their mom and dad. They also get some of their looks.

In science, we made a DNA ornament. The DNA ornament was pretty fun. It was kind of hard to make because there were a lot of steps to do and I kept messing up. The DNA ornament uses wire and glass beads. The first step was to put some yellow beads and white beads in the middle. Then you had to tie it so that it would make and oval. The next step was really hard and I didn't get it.

Next you had to add one yellow bead, then a white bead, and one blue or red or any other color. Same thing with the other side. Then you had to bring the left wire and put it through the color bead and the white bead. Same thing with the other side. Then you have to pull the wire together and keep pulling until it makes a tiny oval shape. You have to repeat it twelve times. After that you bring your ornament to the teacher so she can do something.

After that you take the left wire and put it through the yellow beads. Same thing with the other side.

The most difficult thing about science last semester was learning the parts of the cell. At first when I saw it, it overwhelmed me. I thought I was going to fail the unit. What made it difficult was learning all the parts of the cell like cell membrane and mitochondria. There was just to much to learn. Then it started to get easier and I started to understand it more. I got some help from Mrs.Poole and it really helped me.

What I learned was the different parts of the cell. I have to say that this was the hardest thing to learn in science so far. I know it will get harder and I will struggle, but I will always ask for help so that I can do well. When the test came, I was a little bit overwhelmed. I tried my best and I ended up getting and A on it.
