Hey guys Im back and this is our final math monday blog. All these math blogs really helped me learn more about math and other things. What have I learned from all these math blogs? I have learned a lot, but I wish there were more blogs about algebra and not so much about pre algebra. I learned about pi and y=mx+b and unit rate and a lot more. These blogs will help me in the future with many things like jobs and homework. I sure people who have read my math blogs, or someone elses math blogs have learned a lot like me and other people.

There is a new thing called Common Core Standards. It is kind of like California State Standards, but everybody follows these standards. There is one where you have to write about math in your math class and talk about what you learned. This is kind of like our math blogs, but they're not on the computer. Instead, you will be writing on a piece of paper and talk about what you learned. If we ever do this, I will know what to do because I have had experience writing about math like in our math blogs. I sure everybody at Computech will know how to do this for Common Core Standards.

There were many things I learned about math. I was actually in algebra, but it was pretty easy. One of the hardest things I learned in algebra was solving systems of equations. It was the hardest thing in algebra and I thought that I wasn't going to pass that lesson. What you had to do was find x and y by eliminating one thing then you put x into the equation and find y. I really didn't get this because there were so many things to do and it made me feel dumb.

I didn't know how to do it at first because there were so many things to do and it really confused me. When it was time to take the quiz, I had missed two questions on the quiz and I only had one chance to do it. I finally got help from my algebra teacher Mr.Erickson. He told me that what you should do is first eliminate the y and find x first. Then he said that I should then plug in x into the equation and find y next. Then I would get my answer. That really helped me so I took the last quiz and passed it. How could this help me in the future I really don't know, but when I take algebra two in high school and they teach this again, I would know what to do.

You can describe math as just using numbers to solve problems. You can say that science is just about experiments, but how is math related to science? As you know, in science you have to experiment to find our things and write down the stuff you see. Sometimes you have to use charts to graph things. You would use a graph in radioactive dating to see how the number of something, say potassium decreased over time to find our how old it is. I saw that in science that the scientists were using formulas to find out something.

That is related to math because in math, you use charts and graphs to graph data and see what the results are. In the periodic table, you see a lot of numbers on it. Those numbers are the atomic numbers. The periodic table also has other number like how much the element weighs and other stuff like that. Those are related to math because it tells you the weight of the element and the order of the periodic number. What I'm trying to say is that there are many similarities between math and science.

Do you know what are negative numbers? Have you seen one? Negative numbers are numbers that are less than positive numbers. When you see a negative number, you will see a little dash on the side of the number. What that means is that the number is negative because it has the negative sign. You use negative numbers all the time when you are doing math. You will see negative numbers all the time in math. You will also see them in real life like in money or stocks.

Where do you see these negative numbers in real life? You usually see them when you owe someone money. Like if you owe the library money, the give you a paper the says how much money you owe and it has a number like this, -3.55. That negative means that you owe the library that much money. You also see them in stocks. When you see the news, you look at the stock market and see what is going on. When the stock is down, you will see a percentage that is negative like this, -0.66%. That means that the stock has lost .66 percent of its stock.

If we didn't have any negative numbers, then we wouldn't know how

How do you solve 2x-7=15? It's pretty easy, and you learn this in algebra. This is exactly a pirate problem. The first thing you would do is add 7 to 15 and -7. You get rid of -7, and you are left with 2x=22. The last thing you would do is divide by 2 to both sides. You also get rid of 2 and are left with x=11. So you're answer to this problem is x=11. Easy right. You just do the opposite of what they want you to do.

This problem is so easy. I learned this back in the first quarter of the school year. Mr.Erickson called these problems pirate problems because you are retracing your steps to find the x. I have done these problems before and I thought they were going to be hard at firs, but it turned out to be easy. I will tell you more about pirate problems and how to solve them. Like pirates, you retrace you steps to find the x. So for this problem, you would have to do the opposite of the operation signs. Instead of subtracting, you would add 7 and instead of multiplying by 2, you would divide by 2. Then you would see what x is at the end of the problem.

Todays blog post is just like last time, but flipped around. Today we are talking about how to convert decimals to fractions. One way I thought of was to put the decimal over a hundred, take of the decimal, and then simplify from there. For example, say the decimal was .45. What you would do is take out the decimal, so know your left with 45. Then put the decimal over a hundred. So know the decimal is 45/100. Then you would simplify from there.

I would say this is the best way because I couldn't think of any other ways. I know some people would disagree because this way is kind of hard with you simplifying a lot, but I couldn't think of another way. If you guys have another way, I will listen and decide if that way is better than this way. So after you simplify, your answer would be 9/20. You divide by five and get that answer. I wish I had another way to solve this.

When people grow up, they learn how to convert a number to a decimal. You would use this to find out you percentage. For example, you would convert 1/4 into a decimal, which is 0.25. Then you would move the decimal place over two times and get 25%. Another way you could convert a number to decimals is to multiply the numerator and the denominator by 25. For example, you would multiply 1/4 by 25 to get 25/100. That gives you the decimal value of the fraction.

I think the best way to convert a number to a decimal is to divide the numerator by the denominator. This is the best way because it is easy and fast. For the other way, that way is kind of difficult because you have to get a piece of paper and then multiply it. With dividing the numerator by the denominator, it is much easier. So you 1 divided by 4. First you add a decimal. Then you have 10 divided by 4. Subtract 8 and then you get a 2.

Today's blog is about what would be better when purchasing food for a restaurant, ratio or percentage? I would choose percentage because it would show you how much food you are selling. Ratio is used to compare to things, and that wouldn't help very much, but if you use percentage, then you would know how much food you are selling.

Percentage tells you how much out of a hundred. If I had my own restaurant and had to order food, I would check how much food we are selling. Say if we were selling a lot of steaks and the percent was 97%, then I would order a lot of steaks. If were selling shrimp at only say 45%, then I would order only a little bit of shrimp. Sometimes people change their minds and order other foods, which would bring up sales. You have to look at the percentages because it will show you how much you are selling.

Remember we use Pi to find the circumference or area of a circle. This problem says how to find the area of a circle with a radius of 3ft and find the circumference. To find the area, the formula is pi x radius x squared. So if the radius is 3 then you multiply by 3 to get 9. Then you multiply by pi, which is 3.14. 3.14 x 9 is 28.26ft. So the area of the circle is 28.26ft.

To find the perimeter of a circle, we use a different formula. the formula to find the perimeter of a circle is pi x diameter. Since the radius is 3 you add another radius to get the diameter which is 6. So the formula is 3.14 x 6. You multiply that to get 18.84ft. So the diameter of this circle is 18.84ft.

Do you guys know what pi is? I'm not talking about the food pie. I am talking about the mathematical constant. Pi is the mathematical constant in which we use it to find the circumference of a circle of the area of a circle. Pi is an irrational number and can be expressed in many ways. It can be expressed as a fraction like 22/7 or it can be a number like 3.14. Pi goes on forever and ever and never stops. Pi has been known for about 4,000 years. No one knows who found Pi. Its founder is unknown.

We celebrate Pi on a day called Pi Day. Pi Day is on March 14 because the number 3.14 represents March the third month and 14 which is on the 14 of March. Many people celebrate Pi Day. Here at Computech, it's the best day ever. We have a whole celebration for pi. We have a contest about remembering the most digits from pi and we see who can remember the most digits. There are also many fun activities that I don't know about so it is going to be so fun. I can't wait and see what they have in store for us.
